What is a Fortschrittskolleg?
In July 2014, North Rhine-Westphalia’s research strategy "Fortschritt NRW" launched the "Fortschrittskollegs NRW" program. The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research has committed to supporting this project with €15 million over four and a half years. The strategy emphasizes the promotion of young scientists in the field of sustainable development. Within this broad field, the framework incorporates issues of climate change, demographic development, food and health care, resource depletion and power supply, access to information, and mobility. All are major challenges confronting contemporary society. These areas are divided across six structured graduate schools housing doctoral students, including one comprising the Future Water network.
